This flag rugby program is an introductory rugby program for children under the age of 10. The program is divided into Under 8’s (ages 5-7) and Under 10’s (ages 8-9). Registration is based on your child’s age as of 8/31/17. There are three training programs that your child can be involved in, or your child can sign up for the ‘full year’/annual membership which includes formal training opportunities between January-July and social opportunities throughout the year.

·       Indoor Winter Skills Development Training: January 7-February 25 (8 sessions)

·       Interim Spring Rugby: March 3- April 20; Saturdays 12-1:00

·       Spring Rugby Flag Program/League: April 21-June 9 (Saturday Afternoons)

·       Outdoor Summer Rugby: June-July (Approximately 8 weeks)

·       Annual Membership: Participation in ALL programs/seasons all year (formal training/opportunities between January 1-August 1 and social opportunities all year)

Winter Skills Development Training: This once/week indoor practice will begin 1/7and end on 2/25/18. Practices will occur at Fairfield Woods Middle School (Large Gym) from 9-10.

Interim Spring Rugby: These once/week outdoor practices are available for our annual members/registrants. These practices will help keep U-10 players "fresh" between formal seasons. These practices are currently occurring at Notre Dame High School on Saturdays between 12-1:00 (back parking lot area).

Spring Flag Rugby Program/League: The spring rugby program is a round robin program consisting of co-ed flag rugby teams of 5-6 players. Commitment is one day/weekend, Saturday afternoons (sometime between 1-4pm). The one-hour weekly program will consist of practice/training in various rugby skills (e.g., passing, running in line, etc.). The second half will consist of a scrimmage against another flag rugby team within the program. This ensures that the children have some fun, experience real application of skills learned, and also engage in some competition. Players from all towns are welcome to play in the club.

Summer Rugby: The summer rugby program is a flag rugby program that includes local travel to nearby towns/cities to compete against other rugby clubs. Games are scheduled on the weekends. Practices will occur during the week.

The flag rugby program is run by Gennaro Gelsi, an experienced rugby player and coach who serves as a physical education teacher in the Fairfield Elementary Public School System. He also serves as one of the High School coaches in the Fairfield Rugby Program.
